InstallSftpWindowsServer2008R2Hikvisions Built in NVR Like Capabilities Network Camera Critic. Ive been asked what cameras can record without the need for an NVR or a PC running NVR software. In the past Ive recommended Mobotix which has solid in camera NVR capabilities but sometimes the price of these cameras and complexity have been a barrier to many. Hikvision cameras also have this capability and is probably one of the best implementations Ive seen once its setup, but there isnt good documentation on how to do this, so I put together this tutorial. Let me first show you how it works so you get an idea if its the right solution for you. When video is recorded by the camera to a NAS, you can play the video by logging into the camera via your browser. Free PDF Printer Create PDF documents from Windows applications. You click on the Playback tab across the top and youll see a screen like this. Across the bottom are the playpause button, stop button, and speed control buttons on the left and buttons to take snapshot and download recorded events on the right. Double clicking on the video will bring it up in full screen mode. Double click or hit escape to get back. With e PTZ enabled the magnifying glass, when in full screen mode, you can highlight and area of the screen with your mouse and it magnifies the area, clicking on the screen returns to the full display. The timeline below the buttons is where you find recorded video. You basically drag the timeline under the yellow line and click play. It plays from clip to clip until you hit stop or pause. You can expand the timeline period to get finer control by clicking the plusminus signs on the right. This all works smoothly and as well as most NVRs out there. New-NetFirewallRule-port-22.jpg' alt='Install Sftp Windows Server 2008 R2' title='Install Sftp Windows Server 2008 R2' />You can select another date from the calendar and select a start time below that. To download a video recording, you can click on the download button and it will present a list of all recordings and you can select them and click start and it will download the video from the NAS to your computer. So now that you know how it works, Ill go into the nitty gritty. The first step is to make sure you have the latest firmware version. I had trouble getting this to work until I upgraded to V5 firmware for this camera. The next step is setting up your NAS for NFS. To clarify, NAS means Network Attached Storage and means the disk is connected via your network. NFS is a file sharing protocol, Network File System. Most cheap NAS devices are setup for WindowsMac only and use CIFS share or FTP protocols. This will not work with either, it has to support NFS. I first tried it with a WD My. Book Live which has NFS secretly installed on some models, but it did not work. I used Synology Diskstation and that worked. You can probably use Free. NFS software on Windows and for those with a MAC, you OSX has NFS built in, just have to set it up. Log into the camera via a browser and click on Configuration, Advanced Configuration, Storage and click on the NAS tab. Then type in the IP address of the NAS and then the directory name of the NAS directory this directory is created when you setup NFS. When you click Save, it will ask you for a reboot, wait about a minute and the camera logs you back in automatically at the same point. Then click on the Storage Management tab. If all went well with the last step, youll see your NAS drive with its capacity. Click the checkbox next to it and click the Format button. This is a misnomer as it does not really format your disk. If you have data on there, it will not erase it. All it does it builds some sort of metadata on the volume that doesnt really take up much space. As a warning, depending on the size of your drive, the speed of your NAS, this can take a while, maybe 3. It will provide its progress on the right in terms of percentage done and when its done, the Status should show normal and you should see Free space. I would reboot the camera because this is where my WD Mybook failed, it said Normal but changed to uninitialized after rebooting the camera. With the Synology it stayed Normal. Now click on the Record Schedule tab. Here you have to click the Edit button and enter in your recording schedule for motion detection. If you do it correctly and you want to be able to always record, the schedule will be all green. The easiest way is to put in 0. Select All, click Copy and OK. Now the NAS portion has been setup. If you did not make it this far, it could be your camera firmware or NAS is not correct. Under Configuration, Advanced Configuration, Events, select the Motion Detection tab and check the checkboxes circled in yellow and the click the button circled in yellow to set motion detect area and the schedule same screen as above. If you did everything correctly, it should be set to record on the next motion detection. So stand in front of the camera and wave our hands in the air like you just dont care as the song goes and click on the Playback tab, scroll the timeline to the current time and see if theres a recording. You can also log into the NAS and see if there are any recordings. Kudos to Hikvision for putting all this functionality in an affordable camera. For Hikvision to make this perfect, they would need to support CIFS as thats more common and is password protected where NFS is not. This would allow most people to buy a cheap off the shelf 1. NAS and start using it to record. This makes sense if you have a small amount of cameras like 1 or 2 and buying an NVR is not practical. Once you have a more significant amount of cameras, logging on to each camera to view recordings may be tedious and may be time to get an NVR or NVR software. Where To Buy Hikvision Cameraswww. Server and deploy a VM with a v. GPU assigned. There are a lot of good documentations from Nvidia for the different steps but I didnt find one complete for the whole process after putting the Tesla into the physical Server and installing Xen. Server. In this post I will cover the following areas Installing the Xen. Server Nvidia v. GPU Supplemental pack Changing the Tesla M6. Compute to Graphics Mode Installing and Configuring the Nvidia Licensing Service Configure a VM with a v. GPU and assign a license. Installing the Xen. Server Nvidia v. GPU Supplemental Pack. After the installation of the Xen. Server I am not going to cover that here there are enough other resources describing this the necessary Nvidia supplemental pack is not available. You can see the installed packs in the Xen. Center under the Server General Properties Updates. To download the necessary package you need an Nvidia Portal Account. Interestingly at the moment there is no Register Button on the Login Page. You can register on this page. The problem only is that you require either a valid Key or a Demo Key. Its not possible to get one here. So you need to contact an Nvidia Sales Guy to get a Demo key. After registering and logging in you have the area Product Download available. Here you can download the necessary extensions for Xen. Server, ESX and so on. Download the package corresponding to your Xen. Server version currently 6. The download is a zip file containing different documentations, packs and applications. First of all you only need the following file NVIDIA v. GPU xenserver VERSION NUMBER. To install the supplemental pack open the Xen. Center and navigate to Tools Install UpdateConfirm the Starting guide with Next. Now you have to select the ISO file lower area Select update or supplemental pack from disk. Important There are different supplemental packs for the different Nvidia v. GPU cards available. One is for K1K2 the other for Tesla cards. The name of the package is different K1K2 Contains the word Keplar Tesla without Keplar see screenshot. At the moment it is not supported to run cards of both types in the same server thanks Rachel Berry for the information. Furthermore it is currently not possible to remove an installed pack so if you have a Tesla card and accidentally installed the Keplar pack you have to reinstall your Xen. Server. After choosing the ISO select on which Xen. Servers you would like to install the pack. The pack will be uploaded to the Xen. Server. After installing the updates some tasks have to be done e. Xen. Center or do that manual like you know from every other update. The installation starts, VMs if there are any are migrated off the Xen. Server and it is rebooted if you selected automatically before. After the reboot the Maintenance mode is quite and some checks are done. If you now check the Updates section again you should see the NVIDIA v. GPU package. Moreover you can run the following command on the console to check if the pack is correctly installed lsmod grep nvidia. If everything is correct the output should look like this. When you now open the GPU area of the Xen. Server it might be possible that still no v. GPU Profiles are shown on the right side also the Tesla Card is correctly detected. The reason for this is that the Tesla card is often shipped in Compute mode and not in Graphics mode. Changing the Tesla M6. Compute to Graphics Mode. To check in which mode the Tesla card is running open the Xen. Center Console. Now enter the following command lspci n grep 1. The red marked area shows the mode 0. Compute 0. 30. 0 Graphics To switch the mode, you need an Utility from Nvidia. You can either Download this from the Product Download page after logging in or under the Nvidia support download for the Tesla cards. The downloaded Zip Files contains the following files. There are different options how to change the GPU mode e. Linux to make it easy we will integrate the utility in the Xen. Server. Thus we only need the file gpumodeswitch. Important Not the file with the extension exe the file without an extension the first in the screenshot. To copy the file to your Xen. Server you need to start Win. SCP. Select SFTP, enter the Xen. Server IP Address as the Host name. Username is root with the same password you use in the Xen. Center. Confirm the Warning. Now copy the gpumodeswitch file to a temporary folder e. Xen. Server. Switch to the command line from the Xen. Server and navigate to the tmp folder. To show the current GPU mode enter the following command. But whats that the permission is denied. To allow the execution of the file you have to modify the file permission. Enter the following command chmod 7. Now you should be able to execute the gpumodeswtich utility. After the execution you get another warning that first the NVIDIA kernel driver has to be unloaded. Before you can remove the driver first stop the xcp rrdd gpumon service service xcp rrdd gpumon stop. Now remove the unload the NVIDIA driver. You can now change the graphics mode with this command. The mode change needs to be confirmed with Y. The Tesla cards now receive the graphics mode firmware. After the update finished you can again check if the graphics mode is now active. In the red marked area you now see a 3. Tesla cards the Graphics mode is now active. If you switch to the GPU area from the Xen. Server the different v. GPUs are shown. Installing and Configuring the Nvidia Licensing Service. The next step is to install and configure the Nvidia Licensing service. The necessary downloads are also available in the Nvidia portal under Product Download. The package contains a setup. Start the installation with the setup. If you havent read the requirements you might have missed that the service requires a Java 3. Bit installation. So first install Java. And then start the setup again. Accept the license agreement for the Nvidia software. And also accept the license for Apache an Apache Tomcat is used for the license service. You can now change the installation path if you like. The default setting is to configure the Windows Firewall to only allow connections to the license service itself not to the management website. If you want to access the website not only from the license server itself and the Windows Firewall is active you need to activate the Management interface as well. A summary shows the installation path and the required disk space. The license service including Apache Tomcat is now installed. Finish the installation with Done. The first check is now if the tomcat is running. Open a browser on the server and open http localhost 8. Tomcat welcome page if everything is running correctly. To open the Nvidia license server enter http localhost8. The first things shown are the Licensed Clients of course there is no client shown until now because we didnt configure a client or install a license. The licenses are managed under License Management. As you can see you need to upload a license file. To get the license file browse again to the Nvidia portal and switch do License History. Here you can see all of your licenses. Select the licenses you would like to assign.
